His obstacle was handed down to him on the day of his birth. His name was his obstacle. Each time anyone called him and he answered, it was like fulfilling Matthew 18:18 in an unpleasant way. The mother gave the name because of some circumstantial issues surrounding his birth and that became his hindrance to the good things of life.
One could imagine if he wrote an examination, he would be the one that would fail; why? The obstacle. If he tried to get a job; no one would employ him; why? The obstacle. If he tried to get married, there would be no success; why? The obstacle. In any good thing he tried to do; there was no breakthrough because the obstacle was all around him, with him and all against him – his name.
This is more than enough reason to blame the mother, the father, all the family members, the government and even God. Then, accept his fate and keep on ‘patching’ on in life until death. After all it was not his fault. He did not give himself his name that has become his albatross. Jabez (his name) did not do any of this; he chose the positive side of things by approaching the unchangeable Changer of all things. Malachi 3:6
“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.” – I Chronicles 4:9-10
Jabez saw miracle instead of obstacle; he got one after he called on the God that does only wondrous things. Psalm 72:18
You too can place that call today for your miracle; don’t see that obstacle as one but as miracle in disguise. Wait a minute, you must be born again, if you are not yet. You must do it now!
Your miracle is just a call away!
