THE POWER OF CONTINUITY AND CONSISTENCY III
God commands us to obey Him. He even made it clear that obeying Him is the precursor to the release of His blessings. However, it is not enough to obey God once; it is important to observe the need for continuity and consistency in our obedience to maintain the flow of the blessedness of obedience. The Bible says:
“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto, and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. The LORD shall establish thee a holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee. The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail, and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:” – Deuteronomy 28:1-13
The ‘over-flowing’ blessings attached to diligent obedience to God and His commandments will remain on the increase as long as obedience is in place. Where obedience stops is where the blessing stops. It is the power of continuity and consistency in obedience that guarantees the flow.
There are Sixty-Eight verses in the Book of Deuteronomy Chapter 28; the first fourteen verses contain the instruction and the benefits of obedience. These are blessings so sweet that anyone would be excited to have. On the other hand from verse 15 to 68 contains warning on the danger of disobedience and all the curses attached to disobedience. The blessings of obedience can flow steadily if obedience is continuous and consistent. Where God stops blessing is where a man stops obeying.
As a believer, if you are experiencing the flow of blessing in some or many areas of your life now, it is scriptural wisdom to keep doing whatever you are doing that lines up with scriptural demands of obedience. It is greater wisdom to enlarge your coast of obedience because the enlarged coast of obedience will ultimately result in expanded blessings.
In the same vein, if you noticed that certain blessings that used to flow in your direction suddenly stops; the first thing to do is to check your sphere of obedience to the commandments of God. If there has been a break, it should be quickly fixed and blessings will flow again. No devil can stop the flow of God’s blessings towards an obedient child of God. Romans 8:31.
Abraham was an icon of obedience. God instructed him to leave his country, people, and kindred at age 75, he obeyed. Genesis 12:1-4. He became very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. Genesis 13:2. God instructed him to circumcise himself and his household at the age of 99, he promptly obeyed. Abraham became a confidant of God and an intercessor for men. Genesis 18:17-33.
God instructed him to sacrifice the son he waited for 25 years for; he obeyed and God intervened. Genesis 22:1-14. Abraham received sworn blessings from God and ended his life as a blessed man in all areas of life. Genesis 22:16-18; Genesis 24:1. Abraham may have entered into God’s ‘radar’ at age 75; continuous and consistent obedience sustained him in God’s blessing for an upward of 100 years, he lived for 175 years. The power of continuity and consistency in obedience also turned him to a transgenerational blessings. Jesus had to come to connect believers to the blessing of Abraham. Galatians 3:13-14
It will amount to scriptural intelligence for believers to engage the power continuity and consistency in obeying as Abraham did. Isaiah 51:2; John 8:39. It is not enough to claim Abraham’s blessing in song, word or even prayer; it is important to be continuously and consistently obedient to the commandments of God against all odds as Abraham did.
