THE FUNDAMENTAL I
The English Dictionary defines fundamental as:
- Forming a necessary base or core;
- Of central importance;
- A central or primary rule on which something is based.
The Christian adventure will be a pleasant, impactful and most refreshing if adequate and enough attention is paid to the fundamental of our Christian experience. The Bible says:
“…the just shall live by faith.” – Habakkuk 2:4
This line was repeated four times in the Bible in different books:
“…The just shall live by faith.” – Romans 1:17
“…The just shall live by faith.” – Galatians 3:11
We understand from scriptures that “the just” is anyone that has been justified by Jesus Christ through redemption. – Romans 8:29-30
Therefore, “the just” is a Christian; a believer in Jesus Christ, a saint of God through the finished work of redemption.
Our text implies that without faith “the just” is dead! This truth sounds ‘deadly!’ The just may seem physically alive and doing the normal thing other people do but he is spiritually dead. The natural consequence of death is corruption, decadence, degeneration.
Without faith “the just” will experience spiritual corruption;
Without faith “the just” will experience spiritual decadence;
Without faith “the just” will experience spiritual degeneration.
“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.” – Hebrews 10:38
The above scripture added a new dimension to the text; “Now the just shall live by faith…” this shows urgency, currency, seriousness and necessity. It also shows that faith must be consistent, persistent and enduring to the end; “…if any man draw back, my soul shall have not pleasure in him”.
The subject of faith deserves and demands a serious attention for any Christian who desires to live.
Therefore, faith is a must. Growing in faith is not negotiable, growing in faith is indispensable! But faith comes from the Word of God!
Receive grace to keep growing your faith.
