THE CONCLUSION VI
We have established that love is the summary of the conclusions. According to scriptures, love is the fulfilling of the law.
“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.” – Romans 13:8
Fulfilling the law automatically connects believers to the blessedness of obedience detailed in Deuteronomy 28:1-13
“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee. The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:”
One may ask; does it mean that loving God and my neighbor connects me to the blessings listed above? The answer is a resounding yes! Love is the fulfilling of the law. The New Testament does not cancel or abolish the Old Testament. As a matter of fact, Jesus said that the end will not come until all that is written in the law is fulfilled.
“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” – Matthew 5:18
We still need to be reminded that love is the fulfilling of the law!
“Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” – Romans 13:10
That is why all things work together for good for those that love God and are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28. The real love is not theoretical, real love is practical. The sincerity of our love for God is demonstrated in acts of love towards God and the interest of his kingdom. For instance, God is holy and commands believers to live holy. We cannot claim to love the holy God and be living in sin. If we sincerely love God we will not just live holy, we will love to live holy, we will love holiness and we will love holy people and we will love those that love holiness.
Incidentally, according to scripture, holiness actually means obedience to the instructions of the holy God. Our songs of “love” to God is not enough, we must submit ourselves to the act of holy living to demonstrate our love for God. Just like we established that love is the summary of all the conclusions; holiness is the summary of all the conclusions of our walk with God. Without it, seeing the Lord will remain a day-dream. Hebrews 12:14.
Let us demonstrate our love for God by living holy and consciously and consistently work towards perfection. We will have access to the blessedness of obedience on the earth; our faith, prayer and all other spiritual exercise will generate tremendous result and impact; we are sure to end-up with Christ in the eternity as we demonstrate our love for God by living holy.
The good news is that if we choose to live holy, we will be good neighbors. We will see others as God sees them, consequently, we will treat them well!
