“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” – Acts 1:8

Jesus is God’s love Gift to the world but the Holy Spirit is the Father and the Son’s Gift to the believers.  Every genuine believer is born of the Spirit.  John 3:6.  The Spirit comes “within” the believer at new birth but comes “upon” the believer at the Holy Ghost baptism.  The spiritual consequence of the “Spirit upon” a believer is power not just speaking in an unknown language.

Holy Ghost baptism is the right of every believer.  Acts 2:38.  It is the spiritual initiation into the school of power.  It is not an end to itself but a means to a glorious and fruitful Christian adventure.  The “power” believers receive “…after that the Holy Ghost is come upon…” them includes: courage, boldness, confidence (in God, not in self or any other), insight (into the word of God), divine ability and authority.  All these were clearly manifested in the lives and ministry of the disciples in the first church.

A wise man says: “when the purpose of a thing is not known abuse is inevitable”.  When the purpose of a things is abused the relevance of that things is altered.  The purpose of the “Spirit upon” which is power received at Holy Ghost baptism is to be witnesses unto Christ in “…Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth”.

Therefore, every believer that has received the Holy Ghost baptism with the evidence of speaking in an unknown language is potentially empowered to be a witness unto Christ.  You are not baptized to just keep speaking in tongues in the church to show how “spiritually buoyant” you have become but you have received the baptism to become effective in soul winning.  Until this is kept in perspective, we may continue to abuse the purpose of the empowerment without knowing.

Many believers today are so comfortable with the initiation into the realm of spiritual empowerment (which is Holy Ghost baptism), therefore, they have refused to move forward.

If you are not Holy Ghost baptized yet, (with the evidence of speaking in an unknown language) get saved; then, get baptized and step out to witness Christ to your neighbors, friends, colleagues, and even strangers.

If you are already Holy Ghost baptized with the evidence of speaking in an unknown language; get yourself into life empowerment of witnessing Christ in your Jerusalem (neighborhood), Judaea (friends), Samaria (colleagues) and uttermost part of the earth (strangers).   This is one of the fundamental ways to grow in spiritual empowerment.
