The right to rule or control varies according to what is being considered or referred to per time. For instance the power to enforce the law of any land is usually given to the police force of that particular land. The right to interpret the constitution of any sovereign state is given to the judiciary of that state. The power to make laws is vested on the legislative arm of government of any particular nation. It is assumed that the power is given. Who owns the power? The power is believed to belong to the state. Who is the state? The people!
Authority is a dimension of God’s power! It is the right given by God to act on His behalf on the earth. The strength of delegated authority in the natural realm is a function of the strength of the power of the giver of that authority. However, the strength of the delegated authority when it comes to God is dependent more on the delegate (man) than the Delegator. The Delegator (God) is constant. Malachi 3:6. The delegate is the variable.
This dimension of God’s power puts the beneficiary in command (dominion) of all things. Everything that will respond and obey the giver of that power will respond and obey the carrier of the power. This sounds so sweet. Who would not like to have that kind of power! The Bible said concerning Jesus:
“And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.” – Luke 4:35-37
It is important for us to understand that Jesus did not demonstrate that authority just because He was the Son of God and God. He did that as a perfect example to all believers. Remember, He stripped Himself of all that He was in heaven and was made in the likeness of men. The Bible says:
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” – Phil. 2:5-8
That means every believer have the potential to demonstrate God’s authority on the earth over all creations; from the elements, to situations and circumstances including demonstrating authority over all the forces of hell. Luke 10:19; Matthew 10:1.
The level of authority that is given to a believer is a function of the believer’s spiritual growth and maturity. We change class in the school of spiritual authority not just only by praying and asking for it but simply by growing up spiritually. The Bible says:
“Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.” – Galatians 4:1-3
Friends, spiritual growth is a must! It takes personal responsibility to keep growing spiritually. Who is that responsible father that will give the key of his brand new SUV or any car at all to his four year old child to drive? It will not just amount to Child abuse, that authority to drive that car will be too much for the child, may endanger the life of the Child and that of others. God is the most responsible Father. The danger is that if one is not growing spiritually, one would be shrinking spiritually! Stop taking spiritual things like a pinch of salt! Get engrossed in spiritual stewardship; you are not serving the pastor or the church by so doing, you are positioning yourself for spiritual authority!
