MAKING THE MOST OF A PROCLAIMED FAST VI

Fasting does not give immunity against satanic incursion but it provides a platform to engage the power of God to defeat the devil.  As a matter of fact, the flesh wants to continue with the regular and routine things, fasting period notwithstanding.  For instance, the flesh wants to continue to take interest in mundane things like browsing and surfing the internet for no value adding reason.  The flesh wants to stay on social media ‘to while away time’.  After all that had been the norm, what makes the day different, is it because someone decides to skip breakfast today?  The flesh wants to engage and ‘continue’ discussing ‘interesting’ topics or ‘gist’ with friends either physically or virtually through technology aided available media.

It is possible to hopping from ‘Facebook’, twitter, Instagram and others for many productive hours rather than praying or searching the scriptures.  With the technology trajectory of smart phones; one’s status on twitter can be permanently online, Instagram and Facebook; active but off-line and inactive in any spiritual engagement.  The moment one picks the Bible; the flesh is ready to sleep because it is weak and tired (having not been fed).  All these are devices of the devil to make the moment unproductive.  It is to plan one’s time in this season.  The Bible says:

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:.. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”  – Ecclesiastes 3:1,11

The purpose of this time and season is to engage our souls to thirst and our flesh to long for God in prayer and fasting.  If you don’t occupy the time with the right things in line with purpose of the season; the devil will fill the time with wrong (but temporarily beneficial) things.

To make the most of the season; we must pray more and talk less.  We can pray anywhere and everywhere.  We must thank God and sing praise more rather than scrolling up and down on Facebook.  We need to search the Scriptures more than search the internet.  If we are not closer to God in prayer, we are not reading or studying the Word of God during fasting, then, we are just wasting our time or deceiving ourselves with religious fallacy.

‘Praylisten’ – praying and listening at the same time.  Remember God said:

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” – Jeremiah 33:3

“Readthink” – reading and thinking at the same time.  You will discover that your light is breaking forth as the morning.  Floods of amazing revelation!

Scriptures for meditation: Isaiah 58:6-14
