IN HIM PART VI
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – II Corinthians
Every believer is meant to be in Christ. As a matter of fact, what makes a believer is his or her being in Christ not necessarily in a Church building, having a Christian name or title. Old things must have passed away and all things must have become new. That is the make-up of a believer. However, being in Christ demands personal responsibility which is anchored on daily alignment with the instructions of scriptures. God deals with our spirit at new birth; the spirit is recreated by the Spirit of God. The Bible says:
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” – John 3:6
At new birth, believers are born of the Spirit. Consequently, the spirit of the man is recreated by the Holy Spirit; the man now becomes a spirit. Being born of the flesh makes man flesh while being born of the Spirit makes man spirit. God will never do anything to the flesh; man is expected to renew the mind with the word of God. The Bible says:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:1-2
Brethren, man’s mind can only be renewed by the word of God. The closer man’s romance and relationship with the word of God the more aligned the man’s mind is with God. Every believer needs a renewed mind to have his or her words and acts align with God. We cannot be in Him and consistently have thoughts, words and acts contrary to Him. That is why it is dangerous for a believer to be away from the word of God.
