“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:” – Hebrews 6:18
If God says it, consider it done irrespective of any contrary situation or circumstance around. It is impossible for Him to lie, He is too faithful to fail and too dependable to disappoint. He told a seventy five years old childless man that through him, all the families of the earth shall blessed. Genesis 12:1-3. He was ordained to be the conduit of God’s blessing to the world. How will that happen without at least a child who would keep the lineage alive? It literarily means that God was saying that the seventy five years old man and his wife would have a child. Even with the contemporary advancement in modern medical practice, it sounds practically impossible to think a seventy five year old would become a daddy.
It is interesting that twenty four years later, God appeared to Abraham and reminded him that he would make him a father of many nations. Genesis 17:1-4. Abraham wondered how a child would be born to a man who was a hundred years old with a ninety years old wife. Genesis 17:17. The Bible confirmed that it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. She had long passed the age of menopause.
“Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?” – Genesis 18:11-13
What God was saying was not just too incredible for human comprehension but completely out of the natural order. The only thing Sarah could do was to laugh at the situation (not necessarily at God). However, God does not operate according to natural order. He is not bound by natural laws. He does only wondrous things. Psalm 72:18. He created the natural laws but lives outside it. God’s response was direct and instructive;
“Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” – Genesis 18:14
Friends, there is nothing too hard for the Lord. He made a mummy out of a ninety year old woman and a daddy out of an hundred year old man. The ninety year old woman gave birth and gave suck to the child. Genesis 21:7. It is naturally unthinkable! The faithful God delivered His promise to Abraham and Sarah, He will deliver His promise to any believer. He is too faithful to fail.
