“For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.  Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath:  By two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.” – Hebrews 6:16-18

God is unchanging.  God is thrice truthful.  God is the Truth and the source of all truth.  God embodies all truth.  There are two unchanging realities (according to our text) that validate that God cannot lie;

  • God’s nature – the Truth;
  • His counsel; which is confirmed by an oath.

As a result of the above, we can be secure in His promises.  It is both refreshing and assuring to know that He will not change His plans for any reason.  However, it calls for serious caution and concern to take heed where He says we should, to avoid ‘negative reinforcement’.  God says what He means and means what He says.  We should not just emphasize the integrity of God towards fulfilling His promises, we should continually underscore His stance against disobedience.

Thank God for His mercy.  People who constantly rely on God’s mercy while deliberately living in their mess may end up messing up their destinies on earth and ultimately their placement with God.

Don’t keep claiming the promises of God on the premise that God cannot lie while deliberately living in errors.
