ENEMY’S ATTACK ON FAITH VI
Innocence is one of the capital beauty of a child but innocence will become a major minus if a man of thirty (for instance) still has the innocence of a one-year-old. The man of thirty is expected to have gained a level of maturity. In the same vein, everyone is born of the Spirit into God’s kingdom as a spiritual child with a measure of spiritual faith. John 3:5-7; Romans 12:3.
Consequently, one is expected to grow in the spirit by taking deliberate steps to grow.
“Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” I Peter 2:1-2
As believers, we are expected to lay aside the manifestations of the flesh like malice, guile (deceit), hypocrisies (pretense), envies and all evil speaking. All these will retard our spiritual growth if we do not lay them aside. It means that we have the ability to put those things away from us as we desire.
However, the source of our growth is identified as a sincere desire for the milk of the word. It means genuine heart panting after the instructions of God not just to be entertained by them but to be transformed by them. A newborn baby is fed with liquid over time and then solid, consequently, the baby is physically transformed in size and weight.
The nutritional value of the Word of God is not limited to milk, it extends to water (Ephesians 5:25), meat and strong meat (Hebrews 5:12-14), and honey (Psalm 119:103, Proverbs 16:24). We can make the most of different levels of the nutritional value of the word of God by deliberate and intensive exposure to the word of God.
Friends, just like a baby can be carried at certain ages; spiritual babies can be carried by another person’s faith at a certain level. However, carrying a man/woman who is thirty years old would be challenging especially if it is for the purpose of doing what he/she should do for him/herself. There is also a state that a believer would get to that he/she needs personal faith to get things done not really depending on others. The enemy will rather want a believer to live, walk and operate by sight and not by faith. That is why the enemy will attack believers with the scourge of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, and all kinds of evil speaking to keep the believer as a spiritual baby.
For instance, rebellion is a common manifestation in the body of Christ. Rebellion is simply disobedience; reacting against constituted authority. It begins with inner disagreement, graduates into murmuring and complaining. Rebellion does not show in anyone’s face! It is a destroyer of faith! The Bible says it is witchcraft. The most dangerous thing about rebellion is that it spread like wildfire, it is highly contagious, and it is endemic.
Many people that ended up as victims of rebellion may not even know the reason for the rebellion. They just join the bandwagon and go down with the bandwagon. Where rebellion begins is where faith stops working. It is the spirit of rebellion that was sent from the pit of hell to destroy the first king of Israel. I Samuel 15:23; I Samuel 16:14. A king was likened to a witch simply because the spirit of rebellion entered him. He eventually lost his faith, lost the throne, and lost his life.
Friends, accept responsibility for personal spiritual growth, it is dangerous not to. Faith grows according to the proportion of our spiritual growth. Refuse to be caught in the spell of rebellion towards God, stand for God, His word, and the interest of His kingdom at all times and in all places.
