Jesus Christ said:

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, where with shall it be salted?  It is henceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13-16

The value of salt is in the flavor; when the flavor is gone, salt will not be better than ordinary sand.  The value of a believer to God is a function of his/her impact on the world around. The world is covered with darkness and thick darkness has covered the people living in it but Jesus Christ said that the believers are the light of the world and a city that is set on an hill which cannot be hid.  Therefore, believers are expected to live for Christ so as to glow like lights thereby showing the dark world and her gross-darkened inhabitants what Christ is like. He is the true Light that lightens everyone that comes into this world. John 1:9

Believers shine in the world by:

  • Telling the world about the True Light – Jesus Christ;
  • Refusing to go along with the crowd by influencing the crowd to come to Christ; you cannot conform to the dark world and with her gross-darkened people and shine or be different from them;
  • Never denying the Light but presenting and explaining the True Light to all.  Don’t wait to be invited to a shrine by your unbelieving friend/colleague before you tell him/her about Christ;
  • Refusing to allow sin to dim or quench your light.  Sin dims and if allowed, quenches believer’s light. Let everyone around you see the good work of righteousness in your life so they can glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The big question is that; is your life preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ or ‘de-preaching’ it?  Many so called believers will never be bold enough to tell their neighbors, colleagues and may be friends about Jesus Christ because they have got no different life style from the people.

For instance, if you dare to preach salvation to a sin partner; the best image you are painting is that of a hypocrite.  It is high time we paid attention to how we lived. The primary duty of the ‘choicest’ (the believers) is to win souls into the kingdom; dare to keep your garment white, dare to step out and thrust in the sickle, the harvest is ripe!
