We understand from the Bible that God is all-knowing. Psalm 147:5. God’s understanding has no limit. He does not just know everything; He sees everything. I John 3:19-20; Job 28:24. He knows everything about you; He even said that the hairs on your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:30.
We have established that God’s ultimate in prayer is to respond to you “…before you call…” and to perform while you are yet speaking. Isaiah 65:24. His ultimate is to do exceeding abundantly above all you may ask or think according to His power that works in you. Ephesians 3:20
However, the principles of the Lord stand sure. They must be observed and strictly adhered to, otherwise nothing gets done. Where you place God defines where He places you. The position you give to Him is what guarantees the position He gives to you. His response to you is a function of your response to Him. Let us consider the following story from scriptures:
“Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.” – I Kings 17:9-16
God needed to enlist a widow in the company of “…before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24); He still did not break His principles of “…seek first…” Matthew 6:33. He sent His prophet (God’s own messenger) to the widow who had only one meal left for herself and her only child. Despite the pathetic story of the widow and the situation at hand; the prophet did still not say that the widow should make food first at least for the child. Rather, the prophet said “…make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son…”
We must put God and His kingdom first on our prayer altar. This is a fundamental way to connect yourself to the company of “…before they call…” The widow simply obeyed the instructions of the prophet, the results were; death through starvation was averted and they had abundant for many days. Please note that the widow did not pray for abundance; she simply obeyed prophetic instructions and God answered before she called.
As believers, we should make it a habit to ‘make for God first’ on our prayer altar; the ‘…barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail…” Pray for the church; pray for God’s purpose on the earth, pray for souls, pray for the spiritual leaders. Rather than talking about so many things; pray about everything. Luke 18:1. Rather than complaining about everything and complicating your own personal situation, pray without ceasing. I Thessalonians 5:17. It is the noblest thing to do to secure a place in God’s heart. You can enlist in the company of ‘…before they call…” today, the choice is yours!
